Here’s a quick update on anti-social behaviour locally. We know it can be distressing, but we’re working closely with partners to make the area safer and support residents. Dear Windrush Ward Panel Members,
Thank you for attending the recent Windrush Ward Panel Meeting.
Following discussion and agreement at the meeting, it was decided that the previous Priority 1 (Drug-Related ASB) and Priority 2 (Vagrancy-Related ASB) would be merged into a single priority, as both issues are closely linked and often require the same partnership approach to address effectively.
The agreed ward priorities are therefore:
Priority 1: Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)
Aim: To tackle ongoing anti-social behaviour issues within Brixton Town Centre, including drug-related activity, rough sleeping, criminal damage and associated community concerns.
Current activity includes:
Increased officer visibility following the uplift in Windrush SNT and Brixton Town Centre resources. Daily patrols in identified hotspot locations. Engagement with repeat offenders and the use of CPWs and CPNs where appropriate. Monthly multi-agency Days of Action targeting ASB hotspots. Close partnership working with Lambeth Council to address rough sleeping, graffiti, littering and environmental concerns. A zero-tolerance approach to persistent ASB and criminality. Engagement with local businesses regarding the handling of stolen goods and operations targeting counterfeit goods. Priority 2: Robbery and Theft
Aim: To reduce robbery and theft offences, improve public confidence and create a safer environment for residents, businesses and visitors. This priority will be primarily delivered by the Brixton Town Centre Team, with support from the Windrush Safer Neighbourhood Team where appropriate.
Current activity includes:
High-visibility patrols in identified robbery and theft hotspots, including Brixton Town Centre and transport hubs. Intelligence-led patrols focused on offender targeting and areas of repeat offending. Engagement with local businesses, security staff and partner agencies to identify trends and opportunities for prevention. Crime prevention advice provided to residents, businesses and visitors to reduce opportunities for offending. Support for proactive operations targeting robbery, theft and the handling of stolen goods. Priority 3: Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)
Aim: To improve safety and confidence within the community by addressing issues affecting women and girls, encouraging reporting, and taking positive action against offenders.
Current activity includes:
High-visibility patrols in locations identified through community feedback and crime reports to improve reassurance and deter offending. Engagement with local businesses, licensed premises and partner agencies to promote safety initiatives and encourage reporting. Participation in VAWG-focused operations and awareness campaigns across Brixton Town Centre. Safeguarding referrals and support for victims, working closely with partner agencies to ensure appropriate assistance is provided. Intelligence gathering and targeted action against individuals suspected of committing offences linked to VAWG.
These priorities will guide the activity of the Windrush Safer Neighbourhood Team over the coming months. We will continue to work with residents, businesses and partner agencies to address these concerns and provide updates at future Ward Panel Meetings.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making Windrush Ward a safer place for everyone.
Kind regards,
Across London we’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals - including with new tech like live facial recognition cameras, drones and e-bikes. Antisocial behaviour can come in many forms and can require support from more organisations than just the police. A full list of what we categorise as antisocial behaviour is available on our website. If you have experienced anti-social behaviour or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org Please consider getting involved by registering for these messages, this will enable you to contribute to the local priority survey.
